Sauna ventilation and insulation: what to check before a build

Why do we provide supply and exhaust?

Fresh air needs an entry path and used air needs an exit. The layout must work with the heater and room, including where people sit. We plan separate inlet and outlet paths for custom saunas and agree the drying routine after use.

Are the vent positions the same for every heater?

No. Harvia distinguishes mechanical from natural ventilation and warns against airflow interfering with the heater temperature sensor. Follow the manual for the selected heater and ventilation system. A generic sketch is not an installation drawing.

What is inside the wall?

Our custom specification uses a metal frame, rock wool insulation and an aluminium vapour-control layer behind the interior timber. The project must also resolve sealed joints, penetrations, drying and corrosion protection. Do not choose a wall simply by counting layers; the complete assembly and its suitability for sauna temperatures matter.

What changes outdoors in Indonesia?

Roof drainage, exterior exposure and the base connection add requirements beyond the hot room itself. Keep rainwater management separate from room ventilation. Provide access to inspect service areas and dry the sauna after operation rather than enclosing damp cavities.

What should be checked at handover?

Check the installed heater and controller against the agreed configuration, the airflow route, service access, door operation and the care instructions. Electrical installation and manufacturer clearances should be verified by the responsible installer. Keep the manuals with the project records.
